Information from: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario. Toronto: Historical Atlas Publishing Co., 1906 Prominent citizens of the day would purchase a subscription to a County Atlas, which included a series of township maps along with brief biographies of their families. The family sketches are listed underneath while the excellent maps are available at no charge at the McGill County Atlas Project Locations of the subscribers' homes are included on the maps. |

In May 1831 a group of Englishmen set out from New York for what would become Arkell Ontario. A list of men in the party includes Thomas and John Arkell, for whom the settlement was named, Lewis King, Thomas King, James Hewer, Frederick Stone, Thomas Stone, John Outin, James Carter, Joseph Dory, Charles Willoughby and Peter Bell.
