JACKSON, William,
was b. in Co. Leitrim, Ire., in 1834. When he was eighteen years of
age he emigrated to Canada, stopping two years in Nichol, and in 1854 made his
way up to Minto, where he secured 100 acres of land, lot 26, con. 3, which he
set. upon and cleared. He was one of the first settlers on the line, and came
when the country was a wilderness, and before the roads had been cut out. He m.
Ellen Jackson, who d. in 1894. He has five boys living, George, who owns and
farms the old homestead, and with whom the father lives; Thomas, Vancouver;
William, Jr., Toronto; Philip, Minto, and James R., in N.-W. William Jackson
made a specialty of raising and fitting Durham grade cattle for the market, and
frequently took first prizes at the agricultural fairs.
