McISAAC, Isaac
, was shepherd in Scot., and was b. in 1840, near Cluny Castle, Badenoch,
Inverness-shire, Scot. He started to earn his own living at eight years of age.
In 1861, at the age of twenty-one, he came to Canada, and was in Halton Co.
until March 1865, when he came to Maryborough and rented the west half of lot
2, con. 12, for three years, and then for three years rented part of lot 9,
con. 12. In 1871 he bought 90 acres, west half of lot 13, con. 11. About 1880
he bought 50 acres west half lot 12, con. 11, and in 1900, 50 acres of the east
half of lot 12, con. 11, making 190 acres altogether. Mr. McIsaac is a
progressive and aggressive farmer, and has first class buildings on his farm.
There were 30 acres cleared on the first piece that he purchased. He is a good
stockman, and has often acted as judge of poultry at local fairs. He was
interested in the organization of the Rothsay cheese factory, and drew milk to
it the first year of its operation. He was its President for two years and
director for years. He was also a Director of the Peel and Marybofough Mutual
Fire Ins. Co. for six years. He is a Presbyterian, and has attended Rothsay
Presbyterian Church for forty years. In politics he is a Conservative, and has
never held municipal office.
When Mr. McIsaac arrived in Acton, he had expended his last dollar, and commenced life in Canada with nothing. From this he has by his own industry become the possessor of one of the finest farms with improvements in Maryborough, and is considered one of its most prosperous and successful citizens. He m. Mary Mann, Halton Co., whose family came from Scot. in 1832. Issue: John, Ann, bookkeeper, in Toronto; Mrs. Isaac Walton, con. 12, Marybough; Isaac, Jr., at home, and two children died in infancy.
