MURPHY, Thomas (d.), was b. in Kilkenny, Ire., in 1780, and d. in Hastings Co., in 1866. He came to Canada in 1838, settling in Hastings Co., where he owned 650 acres of land. He was a man of quiet disposition, and a hard worker. In religion he was a Roman Catholic, and in politics a Reformer. Issue: John, Michael; Mrs. James Killoran, and Mrs. John Kirven, Hastings Co.

John, came to Guelph Tp., in 1871, and set. on lots 1 and 2, son. 3, Div. C., purchased form Dwyer estate, He was Reeve of Lennox and Addington for 19 years and was a strong church man. He m. Ellen O'Brien, a sister of Bishop O'Brien. Issue: Mrs. Richard Murphy, Arthur; Michael, Katherine, Mrs. Steven Leadley, Mrs. Joseph Harris, Guelph and Esther, sister in the Convent of Precious Blood. Michael has had the homestead for 22 years. He carries on mixed farming. There are 200 acres, 90 acres of which are in the city. He is a Roman Catholic, and a Reformer. He m. Adeline Coghlan. Issue: John, Winnipeg; Eva, Thomas, and Fred.
