MURPHY, Daniel , was b. Nichol Tp., 1846. Mr. Murphy learned the blacksmith trade in Fergus Tp., and moved to Mount Forest, where he followed that business for some years, and then sold out and started the grain business. Mr. Murphy pressed the first hay in Mount Forest. He later purchased his present farm of 200 acres, most of which is in the corporation of Mount Forest. He carries on mixed farming and fattening cattle extensively about 200 head each year, for export purposes. He also deals extensively in hogs, buying a large quantity of hogs and cattle for shipping. Mr. Murphy started without a dollar, and is now considered one of the largest general drovers in North Wellington. His barns are the most up-to-date in the county, being lighted throughout by electricity. Mr. Murphy has been in the Council and a member of the High School Board. In religion he is a Romans Catholic, and a Liberal in politics. In 1870 he m. Mary Maguire. Issue: Stafford, in the Ontario Bank; James, auctioneer; William, at home; Emmett, Fort William; Leonard, Vincent, Cyril, Arthur, and Ursula.
