CAMPBELL, James
(d.), was born Ayrshire, Scot., in 1826 and d. 1886, age 60. He came to
Canada in 1854 and purchased a farm of 100 acres, on lot 17, con. 6. Mr.
Campbell brought about $250 with him, which was used in the purchase of his
land. The country was all bush, and he followed a blazed path to his farm.
He put up a small log house, and commenced the work of home making,
practically clearing his farm himself. A larger log house was afterwards
built" and in 1883 the commodious stone residence now owned and occupied by by
his son James, was erected. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian church for
years, and a Liberal. In 1850 he m. Christina Louttit, b. Orkney, Scot.
James, the only son, was b. W. Garafraxa, in 1860, and succeeded to the homestead where he carries on mixed farming and makes a specialty of keeping fine horses. He has been an Elder in the Presbyterian church for the past twelve years, and a School Trustee for nine years. He is a Liberal in polities. He m. Margaret S. Essen, dau. of John Essen, pioneer of E.
