EWEN, William, Sr . (d.), late of Nichol, was born in Aberdeensliire, Scot., in 1808, and d. in 1887. He came to Canada, settling on lot 3, con. 2, where he owned 100 acres. He was a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Betsey Cowie, who d. in 1895. Issue: Thomas, Alexander, John, William (d.), George, and Mrs. William Smith.

William Ewen, Jr. (d.),, succeeded to the homestead, where he lived for some time, when he bought the adjoining farm, lot 4, and moved to it; owning both farms until his death in 1897. He was one of the Managers of the Presbyterian church for several years, and was a Liberal in politics. He was of a retiring disposition and never sought office. He was strong and vigorous, and accumulated a large property; and d. respected by all. He m. Christina Davidson of Mill Bank, Perth Co. Issue: Mrs. Wm. McLeod., set. in Estavan, N.W.T.; John, Jr.; William, set. in Sask.; Thomas, set. in N.-W.

John, Jr., son of William Ewen, Jr., b. in 1880, is on the old homestead of 200 acres, where he succeeded his father. He feeds a large number of cattle, which he fattens for export. He is very prosperous, and, although quite young, takes a first class position among the farmers, and is a highly respected citizen. He is a Presbyterian, and a Liberal.

John Ewen, son of the late John Ewen, Sr., was b. in Nichol, in 1845. He owns a beautiful farm of 200 acres, lots 8 and 9, con. 3, of Nichol. He raises Durham cattle, Clydesdale and standard bred horses, and a number of well bred hogs and sheep. He has exhibited at the various fairs with great success. He is one of the most progressive and respected farmers in Nichol, and pays more taxes than any other farmer in the township. His farm is in first class condition, with all modern machinery. He is one of the Managers, and a Trustee of the Pres. Church in Fergus. In politics he is a liberal. Although of a retiring disposition, he is well known. In 1870 he m. Elizabeth Barnnet. Issue: Mrs. Wallace Kelly, set. Port Huron, Mich.; Mrs. Wm. G. Jackson, set. in Regina; Margaret, Ina, Adele, William, in the N.-W.; George, Albert, and John, Jr., Sask.
