McPHERSON, John
(d.), b. in Badenoch, Inverness-shire, Scot., in 1797, d.
1864. He was a farmer on a small scale in Scot., and in 1841, in company
with his father-in-law, Peter McPherson, better known in Puslinch Tp., as
"Linny" McPherson, he came to Canada. His father-in-law went to Badenoch,
Puslinch Tp., but John bought 45. acres, lot 6, con. 14, E. Flamboro, which
he farmed until his death. He m. Ann McPherson in Scot. Issue: Mrs. Peter
McLean, Badenoch, Puslinch Tp.; Peter, Mrs. Wm. Milne, Hamilton; Mrs. Alex.
McLean (d.); Mrs. Alex. Sinclair, Galt; Mary, d. in .1889, and Angus, a
miller (d.), in Hamilton.
Peter, b. 1832, d. 1899, was nine years of age when he came to Canada. He received the homestead at his father's death, and later increased it to 113 acres. He would never hold office. He was a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Catharine McKenzie, con 9, Puslinch Tp., who still survives him. Issue: John P., Mrs. James S. Laking, con. 10, Puslinch Tp.; Jessie, book-keeper in Hamilton, and Mrs. Wm. Moore, con. 10, Puslinch Tp. John P., succeeded his father on the homestead. He farmed it until 1900, when he purchased 200 acres of the old Linderman Estate, front lots, 34, and 35, con. 10, Puslinch Tp. He rents the heading mill, which was recently burned. A fine trout stream runs through this farm. He is a Presbyterian, and a Liberal. He has never sought nor held municipal office. He m. Sarah Burdon.
