LAW, William
(d.), was b. Ire. in 1814. He came to Quebec about 1830, and rented a farm in
the suburbs of the city, and ran a dairying business. About 1855 he sold his
business and bought an unimproved farm in Beauce Co., Quebec, where he stayed
for ten years. In 1865 he went to Toronto and established a dairying business
on Berkeley Street, which he conducted until he retired from active business.
He was a member of the English church, and a Conservative. He d. at the
residence of his son in Muskoka in 1904, age 90. In 1842 he m. Rose Ann
Johnson, who is living at the age of 87. Issue: John, Mrs. Wm. Webber, Mrs.
McCrea, and William, Toronto; George, Muskoka; Mrs. Taggart (d.); Mrs.
Cosborne, Toronto, and Mrs. Hermiston, Listowel.
John was b. in the city of Quebec in 1843. As a young man he worked in Montreal and Toronto until he had saved enough money to buy some horses, when he commenced teaming, which he continued during the Fenian Raid, being at it for five years. About 1870 he rented a farm in Downie Tp. for three years, after which he came to Maryborough, and rented 100 acres, the west half of lot 7, con. 2, and after eight years, in 1885, purchased it. He also owns 100 acres, west half lot 12, con. 2, and has acquired all of his property by his own exertions, being one of the hardest workers in the township. He is a member of the English church, and a Conservative. In 1872 he m. Mary J., dau. of John Stinson. Issue: Mrs. John Keyes, Stratford; Jennie (d.), Mrs. A.
