McLELLAN, Robert
, b. Co. Antrim, Ire., 1818, d. 1882, age 64. He came to Canada in 1845, and
was the oldest son of John McLellan, the pioneer, who was a leading settler in
West Garafraxa. He was a very industrious man, and his property, at the time of
his death, amounted to 200 acres. He was noted for his hospitality, and good
neighborly qualities as well as fair and equitable dealings in business, and
unlike his brother the late Richard McLellan, Ex-Reeve, etc, and father of John
McLellan, never went in for public life. He attended strictly to accumulating
his property, and providing for his family. In 1865 he m. Margaret Nelson. Mrs.
McLellan, who is universally respected and popular, resides on the homestead,
lot 3, con. 8, West Garafraxa, which she owns, with an additional 50 acres,
which she purchased since the death of her husband. 150 acres of her property
opposite her residence is farmed by Mr. Isaiah Miller. Mrs. McLellan spends
much of her leisure with her daughter in Toronto. The children are: Thompson,
N.W.T.; Robert N.W.; Jane A., 26 Carleton Street Toronto, and Mrs. James
Bunting, Arthur.
