CARBIN, John , b. Somerset, Eng., 1844. He came to Canada in 1866, with his wife and one child. He worked out for farmers in Arthur Tp. for 8 years, getting $100 for his first year's work, out of which he had to keep his family. He then rented his present homestead of 100 acres, lot 21, con. 1, and started for himself, contending with all the hardships of pioneer life. He now owns the place upon which are modern buildings, and fine stock. He is a member of the English church, and a Liberal in politics. In 1862 he m. Mary Ann Gould. . Issue: Joseph, in Arthur, William, Mrs. Fred Shaw and Mrs. William Gard, Luther; Frederick, Fanny and Emily, at home. Frederick is on the homestead. He m. Catharine Bridge in 1905.
