MORTIMER, William .
The late William Mortimer of Pilkington, was b. in Aberdeen, Scot.,
in 1805, and d. 1889. His ancestors were millers for many generations. He came
to Canada in 1855, settling in Woolwich, and in 1856, removed to Pilkington,
settling on lot 2, con. C. Mr. Mortimer was a man of ambition and enterprise,
qualities that soon brought him to the front in the strenuous life of these
days.
About 30 years ago, he bought another farm, lot 6, con. C., and with the assistance of his sons, improved it, erecting modern buildings thereon, and it is now considered on of the best grain and stock farms in the township. It is now owned by his son William Mortimer, of Salem, and tenanted by Mr. William Bye. The late Mr. Mortimer was a Presbyterian, and a Liberal. He m. Eliza Brown, who d. in 1885, age 65. Issue: Elizabeth, in Galt; Benjamin (d.); Maggie (d.); Annie (d.); Mrs. McGillivray, living in London; William, m. Maggie Beamish, living in Salem, and John. John lives on the homestead, lot 2, con. C. He is a well educated man, of literary tastes, and popular with his friends. He contributed several poems to the book entitled "Scottish Canadian Poets," and the Toronto Globe, in its review of the book, published one of them with complimentary references. Mr. Mortimer has a fine farm, keeping grade cattle, sheep and horses. He m. Mabel Beamish. They have one daughter, Annie. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
