BRIDGE, John
(d.), was b. in Yorkshire, Eng., in 1820. The family emigrated to Canada,
settling in Huntingdon Co, P.Q., when he was a child, and it was there that
lie was brought up. In 1859 he came to Minto and set. on lot 29, con. 1. He
m. Bridget McComb and they raised a large family, who are now substantial
citizens in the different localities where they have made their homes. Issue:
William who m. Mary J. Fawcett, and is a prosperous farmer in Maryborough;
Mrs. George Corbett, set. Bruce Co.; Mrs. George Graham, set. Mich.; Mrs.
Thomas Gummerson, set. Wallace; Robert, m. Mary Oldfield, set Palmerston;
Thomas, m. Ann J. Hayes, set. Bruce Co., where he is a leading man, being
Reeve of Eastnor and a Magistrate; Francis, m. Margaret Green, set. in
Wallace; Albert, m. Mary Hayes, set. Bruce Co., and David. David m. Bertha
Richards, and set. on the old farm, where he owns 140 acres and is one of the
most successful farmers in the district. He and his family are members of the
Salvation Army, and take an active interest in religious work. The late John
Bridge was a consistent member of the Church of England, and a man of sterling
integrity. He came to Minto when it was a wilderness, and long before
Palmerston existed. cleared his firm, raised a large family, and at the time
of his death left a snug property and a reputation that any man might envy.
