RICHARDSON, Andrew
(d.), b. Roxburghshire, Scot., 1813, where he was raised and
educated , and in 1838 m. Margaret Gibson. They came to Canada in 1842, and
set. in Garafraxa Tp., where he purchased 100 acres of land, lot 4, con. 2.
When the late Mr. Richardson landed in Hamilton, his sole cash capital
amounted to three dollars, but he was an energetic and active man, and
ambitious to succeed, and by industry and frugality assisted by his worthy
wife, who was a great helpmate, he rose to a position of responsibility and
influence in the community. He was for some years a Councillor in Garafraxa.
He retired from the farm to Fergus in 1880, and after the death of his wife
in 1884, age 74, he resided with his daughter, Mrs. Louis Bayne. Issue: Mrs.
Louis Bayne, John G., Andrew, Jr., Mrs. Neil McLean, James G., Thomas,
William and Robert.
John G., b. Garafraxa, 1840, m. Christina Brydon (d.). He was brought up in West Garafraxa, leaving home at the age of fourteen, and depending on himself for his success. In 1865 he purchased 100 acres of land, lot 23, Con. 10 and a few years later purchased an additional 100 acres across the road. He later came to Guelph City, where he was in the coal and wood business for ten years, after which he retired from active business. He now lives on the London Road, Guelph City. Andrew, b. 1842, m. Annie Hall, set. West Luther. He was a prize plowman often gaining first prizes. James, b. 1846, was brought up in Garafraxa. He came to Guelph Tp. in 1880 and purchased 150 acres, lots 21,22, and 23. "West End Road," where he now resides. He m. Elizabeth Buchan. Issue: Andrew, George, James, Mrs. Charles Fisk, Maggie and Robin A. His eldest son, Andrew, Jr., m. Bella Fisk, and owns 100 acres in Guelph Tp., where he resides. Issue: James W. Thomas, b. 1844, m. Margaret Wayper. William, b. 1850, m. Miss Snaden, and set. Shelburne, where he was a successful cattle dealer. Robert, b. 1847, m. Janet Caldwell, set. Garafraxa.
