WATSON, George
(d.). The late George Watson was b. in Forfarshire, Scot., in 1824,
and d. in 1897. He came to Canada in 1844, and lived with his father until
1853, when he purchased 170 acres, lot 5, con. 5, Pilkington. He was for many
years an Elder in the Presbyterian church. He was an upright man, of sterling
character, quiet and reserved in his manners; always a friend to those in need.
In politics he was a Liberal. He m. Maria D. Carder, who was brought to Canada,
when an infant, in 1832, and is living at the age of 73. Issue: George,
Alexander, Joseph, James, William, Maria, Mary, and Albert.
George, was in Dakota as a ranchman for 20 years, and returned to the old homestead in 1900. He has made a specialty of dairying, for which the farm is peculiarly well adapted being watered by the Grand River, and affording fine pasturage. He has some fine Durhams , also Leiceseter sheep, and general purpose horses. He is a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Mary Quarry. Alexander, m. Matilda Lawrence, set. South Dakota. James, m. Hannah Goodwin, set. Elora. William, m. Emily Winfield, set. Manitoba. Maria is a trained nurse in Illinois. Mary, at home. Albert, resides in Leeds, North Dakota.
