DONALD, John , b. Berkshire, Scot., 1830. He came to Canada in 1854, at the age of 13 and worked for farmers in Petersboro Co. for $4 per month. Attracted by the cheap lands, he went to Arthur, where he farmed, and in 1879, came to Luther, and took up the present homestead of 100 acres, the east half of lot 2, con. 13. He had no money to start with, and now, owns one of the best homes in the township, assessed at $5,000. He carries on mixed farming, and keeps fine stock. He is held in the highest esteem in the district, and has has educated his large family, putting them in a position to start for themselves. He has been School Trustee, and Manager, of the Conn. Pres. church, and in politics, is a Liberal. In 1868 he m. Sophia Perry. Issue: Alexander, Grey Co.; Mrs. Donald McFadgen, Preston; Mrs. John McAinch, Arthur; Mrs. Wesley McLuhan, Luther; Robert, Mt. Forest; Hiram, M. H., and Bella E., at home.
