HASTINGS, Timothy
(d.), b. Eng., 1814. The late Timothy Hastings, pioneer in this
country, was
one of the very first settlers in Garafraxa. The land he purchased cleared
and set. upon is now owned by Miss Jean McBain. He afterwards purchased the
farm of 200 acres, now owned by H.R. Pattison, lot 1, con. 5, West Garafraxa.
He was a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He d. at the age of 72 and is buried in
Fergus. He m. Ann Richardson. His wife still survives him and lives in
Guelph.
John Hastings, the fourth son of the pioneer, is the only one living of land opposite the old homestead, on lots 7 and 8, con. 4. This is one of the finest farms in value and situation n the country, and with its large imposing brick mansion and fine outbuildings, standing on a slope leading to the Grand River, it presents an ideal appearance for a beautiful country home. His father, in the early days carried a grist on his back all the way to Armstrong's mills. Mr. Hastings is a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Elizabeth Armstrong. Hastings, Henry, is a son of the late Timothy Hastings, of West Garafraxa. The issue of Timothy Hastings were Timothy, Mrs. William McFarland, Alexander, John, Mrs. Wm. Ellis, James (d.), Edward, Mrs. Thos. Loughead, Henry and Wesley. Henry, set. in Elora, where he was in the livery business for some years. He m. Caroline Watt.
