KEAN, Hugh, Sr
. (d.), b. Co. Antrim Ire., 1783. He m. Letitia Lee, in Ire. The late John
Kean, son of the late Hugh Kean Sr., was a blacksmith by trade and came to
Canada in 1847, and worked first in Guelph, and later started on his own
account in Nassagaweya. He was joined three years later by his father, mother,
and their family, as follows: Hugh Jr.; Charles, Alexander, Mrs. Robert Mead,
Mrs. George Kennedy and Letitia. John later m. Sarah, dau. of the late Wm.
Phin, J. P., and became possessed of lot 5, con. 2, Eramosa, where he lived
until his death in 1892, when it came into the possession of Hugh Kean, Jr.,
who has since lived upon it, and is one of the substantial citizens of Eramosa,
where he is held in high esteem. Charles owns the old Nassagaweya homestead.
Alexander m. Miss Reed, set. in Puslinch, owns 100 acres, lot 15, con. 3.
