GRAHAM, John .
(d.), b. Quebec, 1816, d. 1899, age 83. He came to Arthur Tp. in 1860,
after teaching school in Wolfe Island. For about three years he taught school
in Maryborough and Peel Townships, and in 1863 took up the present homestead
from the Government, it being Crown lands. This property has never been out of
the name since, and the writer was shown the original deed. This property
originally cost $300, and is now assessed for $5,700, which shows the
remarkable increase in valve of property under good management. Mr. Graham was
Auditor and Trustee of the school section for years, and has spent twenty-one
years of his life in teaching. He was a Presbyterian and a Conservative. In
1863 he m. Hannah, a dau. of the late James Wright, of Arthur Township.
Mrs. Graham still survives, hale and hearty. Issue: James A., Luther; William Royal, Iowa; George, and Leslie (d. young). George, unm. owns and lives upon the homestead, where he carries on mixed farming, and makes a specialty of pure bred white Wyandotte fowl. He is a successful, much respected and law-abiding citizen.
