PATTERSON, Thomas (d.), was b. Scot. in 1819; d. 1891, age 72. He came to Canada in 1850, with his wife and four children, and set. in York Tp., where he worked out for farmers, and at teaming for some time. He then rented a farm for some years, and about 1861, being attracted by the cheap lands in the "Queen's Bush," he decided to examine them and took up the present homestead of 200 acres, on lot 11, con. 3, which is now one of the finest homes in the township of West Luther. He was a man of great personal activity, and very successful. He took an active interest in politics, and was a member of the Conservative party, and in religion a Presbyterian. Besides educating and raising his large family , he left them all in comfortable circumstances. He m. Elizabeth Robinson, who d. in 1893, age 72. Issue: Robert, Brampton; John, William, James (d.), Mrs. Paul Jefferson, Man.; Mrs. James Drewery, Elora; Mrs. Wm. Eden, Arthur; Mrs. James Raton, Mrs. Abe. Cann (d.), Mrs. Shortell (d.).

William, b. Markham Tp., in 1851, and lives upon and owns the old homestead, which he helped his father to clear. He carries on mixed farming and is a very energetic and successful farmer. He is a Presbyterian and a Conservative. In 1882 he m. Annie Jamieson. Issue: Leslie, Jessie, Willie, and Stanley.
