CLARK, John Sr.
(d.), was b. Badenock, Inverness-shire, Scot., about 1790, d. 1878, at 88
years of age. He was a farmer in Scot., and came to Canada with his wife and
family in 1833, settling on lots 29 and 30, rear con. 8, Puslinch Tp., which
Peter Grant, his brother-in-law took up for him the previous year. He was a
Presbyterian and Liberal, and never held municipal office. He m. Mary Grant
in Scot. Issue; Angus, Robert, Duncan, Mrs. Jas. McRobbie, d. 1905; Donald,
John, Mrs. Joseph Grant, Peter, Mrs. Peter McIntyre, U. S., and Malcolm.
Angus, set. on rear lot 34, con. 9, which he cleared. The only one of his family living in the county is Mrs. Neil Campbell, con. 10, Puslinch. Robert, set. lot 33, rear con. 9, and cleared it. He m. Margaret McIntyre. Issue: John R., Hugh, Brock road; Duncan, in Aberfoyle, and Donald, d. 1885. John R., b. 1848, owns the old homestead (100 acres), where he engages in mixed farming. He has held no office except Trustee of S. S. 9;. 9, for 8 or 9 years. He is a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Christina, dau. of the late Alex. McLean. Issue: Margaret, Christina, Robena and Sylva. Duncan set. lot 27, rear con. 9, d. 1860. Donald, b. Scot. set. front con. 9, lot 27, and later bought lot 28, front con. 9, both of which be cleared. He is a Presbyterian and a Liberal and is living retired in Morriston. He m. Margaret McPherson, still living. Issue: John D., Brock road; Peter, Nassa Tp.; Mary, at home; Dr. Angus, dentist, Woodstock; Mrs. John McKenzie, con. 11, Puslinch Tp.; Mrs. James Simpson, con. 9, Puslinch; Dr. Donald, dentist, Hamilton, and Duncan R. Duncan R., was b. and raised on lot 28, front con. 91 and succeeded to the homestead when his father retired. In 1905, he increased it by the purchase of lot 26, front con. 9, and now owns 300 acres.. He carries on mixed farming. Mr. Clark has never held municipal office,but has been Trustee S. S. No. 9, for the last six years. He is a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Margaret J. McLean. Issue: Marjorie, Margaret, Annie I., Janet, Mary, Emma. John, still living, was b. in Scot. 1823, and came to Badenoch in 1836, with Peter Grant, who had returned to Scot. for his brother John. Lot 31, rear con. 8, had been taken up for him in 1832, by Peter Grant, and he set. on it and cleared it. He was Tp. Councillor for some years, and has been an Elder in Duff's Church since 1874. He has a better education than the average, and is a Liberal in politics. He m. Isabella Cameron. Of his issue: Peter, lives on con. 10, Puslinch; John, in Michigan; James, who operates the homestead, is a first rate farmer, and raises good cattle for market. He is a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Margaret Dalgaro. Issue: J. Ernest, Grace, d. 8; George, Isabella, James D., Christina, and Grace M. Peter, son of the late John Clark, m. Janet McCaig. He was a lumberman and d. in Strathcona, about 1903. Malcolm, the only one of the family b. in Canada, was b. on Old Hollowe'en, 1833, and was the first white child b. in Badenoch settlement. He succeeded to the old homestead of 200 acres, where he was b., and is still living. He was Trustee S. S. No. 9, for some years. He m. Marjorie McPherson. Issue: Mrs. Peter McKenzie, Vancouver, B.C.; Mrs. John Clark, Mich.; John M., Mrs. Duncan McLean, Angus, at Vancouver; Peter at Ladnors' Landing, B. C., and Donald at Okanagan, B. C. John M., was b. and raised on the homestead, which he operates. He is a first-class farmer, raising A1 cattle and fine horses, and carries on mixed farming. He is a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m.
