BYRNE, Peter
(d.), b. 1787; d. 1867, was a native of Monaghan Co., Ire., and came to
Canada in 1824. After remaining in Lower Canada for three years, he came to
Puslinch Tp. and set. on 100 acres, lot 7, con. 8, where he lived until his
death in 1867. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, and a staunch
Reformer. He m. Judith McMahon in Ireland. Of his family, Mrs. Simon Walsh
(d.), and Arthur, were b. in Ireland; Michael, who set. at Sault Ste. Marie,
was b. in Lower Canada, and John (d.), Patrick, who is in the carriage
business at St. Louis, Ann (d.), and Mrs. Mahoney (d.), were b. in Puslinch
Tp. Arthur was two years old when his father left Ire. and was five years old
when he set. in Puslinch Tp. He has always lived on the old homestead and is
still quite active and able to assist with the farm work. He knew the Hinds
family, who were the first settlers in Guelph Tp. He is a Roman Catholic, and
a staunch Reformer, never having missed voting but once. He m. Mary Nulty.
His family consist of Mary, at home; Mrs. James Savage, Guelph; John, in
Cleveland; Julia (d. 30), and Arthur. Arthur works the homestead, and m.
Elizabeth Moren. Issue: Arthur F. and Margaret.
