father, Francis Reynolds, was an officer in the British Navy, and was for some

grandfather was rector of Aberwella, and an uncle was rector of
Hanley-on-the-Thames. Being left an orphan at an early age, young Reynolds came
to Canada when only nine years of age, coming to the home of his uncle, the
well-known "Squire" Reynolds, under whose protection and care he continued for
some years. He went to California in 1849, making the long and hazardous
journey via Cape Horn. On his return he set. on lots 1 and 2, con. 3, Nichol,
which was his home until his death. Mr. Reynolds was an extensive traveller,
and a man of wide information, and he visited many countries. At the time of
the Russian war he took out a midshipman's commission in the Royal Navy, and
got as far as England to go into active service when peace was declared. He
took a strong interest in all public affairs, was connected in the militia, and
also did yeoman service in municipal matters, being Deputy Reeve for four
years, and Tax Collector for two decades. He was a member of the English
church, and in politics a Conservative. Two sisters and three brothers followed
Mr. Reynolds to Canada, Mrs. (Rev.) Judd, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Mrs. J. McLean Bell,
of Chicago; Owen (d.), San Francisco; Henry (d.), set. in Minto Tp.; and
William, who for many years has been County Treasurer of Wellington County, and
who resides in Guelph.

He has been most successful, and is a progressive, up-to-date citizen. The Reynolds homestead is one of the most attractive in the township. Mr. Reynolds makes a specialty of grade cattle, Clydesdale horses, Leicester and Oxforddown sheep, and has carried off many prizes at the various fall fairs. He takes a great interest in military matters, having taken two courses at the military school in London, and is now Lieutenant of the 30th Wellington Rifles. He has in his possession his grandfather's sword, also his father's commission in the Royal Navy, which he exhibits with pardonable pride. From: Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, Ontario.
