HAMILTON, William (d.), b. County Antrim, Ire. 1798, d. Eramosa, 1882. He came to Canada in 1818, and set. near St. Catharines, and to Eramosa in 1832, He m. Sarah Willoughby. The late William Hamilton came to Eramosa when it was a wilderness, and hewed out a home for himself and family in the forest. He owned 200 acres, lot 4, con. 3. He was a strong character, and his word was considered as good as his bond, a characteristic of the family generally. From a small beginning he rose to a position of influence, and was highly respected. Issue: James, Willoughby (d.); Mrs. Strickland Duffield, and Robert. Robert, b. in 1836, m. Elizabeth Burnett in 1864, who d. 1900. Mr. Robert Hamilton is a man of influence in Eramosa, having been some years in the Council, and also Dep. Reeve. He is one of the substantial citizens of the township. Issue: James, Mrs. Charles Benham, Annie, Mrs. Kuber, William, Mrs. Norris Black, Mrs. John Boughner, Charles, Ernest W., Agnes, Fred, Ethel B., Florence I., Myrtle B., and Eleanor D.
