STEWART, James , was b. on the estate of Lord Rosebery, Linlithgowshire, Scot., in 1832. He came to Canada in 1837, and in 1860 set. in Minto, on lot 29 con 9, afterwards purchasing 100 acres on con 8, making 200 acres. In 1861 he m. Isabella Burnett, of Dumfries, who d. in 1885, age 52. He has been an Elder in the Presbyterian church for 20 years, and in politics is a Reformer. Issue: Agnes, m. William Doughty, set. in Galt; Margaret, m. James Richardson, set. in Minto; John, Thomas, Nellie, m. George Beacon, set. Mt. Forest. Jean is with her father in Harriston. John Stewart lives on the old homestead. He m. first Sarah Epworth, second, Jennie Roberts. He has one son, James. Thomas owns and resides on lot 29, con. 8. He m. Jane Henry. Issue: Marjory. He is one of the successful farmers of the Tp., and is highly respected.
