PRITCHARD, Robert, Sr.,
(d.), late of Nichol, was b. in North Wales, and d. in 1846, at
the age of 56. He came to Canada in 1844, and set. in Nichol, on lot 7, con. 2,
where he owned 100 acres. He was a member of the English church, and a
Conservative in politics. He m. Mary Williams, in Wales, who d. at the age of
77. Issue: John, remained in the Old Country; Thomas (d.), Owen (d.), William
(d.), Katie, d. young; Robert, Jr.; Henry, in Elora; Hugh, and James.
Thomas, b. in Wales, 1842; d. 1882. He set. in Nichol, lot 7, con. 1, where he lived until his death. He stood well in the community, and was Assessor of Nichol for years. He was an expert ploughman, and held the medal for the county as long as it was contested for. He m. Mary Beattie, who is living with her son. Issue: Mrs. Robert Elliott, set. Owen Sound; and Albert T., on the homestead, which he owns. Owen, b. in Wales, 1838; d. 1900. He set. in Port Huron, where he was a successful and respected citizen. Robert, Jr., b. in Wales, 1830; d. 1903, age 73. He came to Canada with his parents, and was practically raised here. He started in life with nothing, and became a well-to-do citizen. He commenced on lot 9, con. 2, of 100 acres, and later purchased the 100 acres, lot 10, con. 1, where he lived until his death. He was a Presbyterian, and Manager of his church for some years. In politics he was a Conservative. He m. Margaret Beattie, who survives him. Issue: Maggie, Robert T., George, Mrs. John W. Black, set. in Toronto; Rev. Henry J., honour graduate of Toronto University and Knox College, set. in Brantford; and William H. Robert T. has been Councillor four years, and in 1905 was elected Reeve of Nichol, being the youngest man ever elected to that position in the history of the township. He joined the 30th Regiment, Active Militia in 1893, and rose to the rank of Captain in 1904. William H. has been in the militia four years, and has been Color Sergeant one year.
