LASBY, Sylvester
(d.), b. Pilkington, 1848; d. 1903, age 55. He was a son of Joseph Lasby, who
came to Canada from Eng., and set. in Pilkington, near Bethany, before the
survey. He took up 50 acres, and was one of the first settlers in the township.
He d. age 66, after having bought places for his sons. The late Sylvester Lasby
and his brother Oliver had 120 acres between them. He purchased Oliver's share,
and in 1894 bought 106 acres from his brother Fred. He was a prosperous farmer;
commencing with $200 he amassed a fine property, starting all of his sons
comfortably in life. He was a man of strict integrity, honesty and morality;
highly respected in the community, and known and liked by everyone. In politics
he was identified with the Liberal party. He m. Mary Louisa Lawrence. Issue:
Walter, Lynn, Amos, and Charles.
Lynn, b. 1874, set. in Erin in 1900 on 200 acres, lot 19, con. 2, known as the Dunbar farm. This farm he has tiled, drained and greatly improved, and it is one of the best, and perhaps the richest farms in the township. Mr. Lasby usually feeds 50 head of cattle, and the last winter (1905) kept 66 head of cattle, 12 horses, besides sheep and pigs. In addition to his own farm, he rents 200 acres from John McKinnon, thus working 400 acres. He m. Maggie Alice Wright. Issue: Alice Louisa and Charles Arthur.
