O'GRADY, Patrick (d.), was b. Co. Tipperary, Ire., in 1784, and d. 1879, age 95. In 1847, at the age of 63, he came to Canada, and in 1850 came to Maryborough, and set. on 50 acres, lot 9, con. 1, given him by his son John, and lived upon it until his death. He was a Roman Catholic, and a Liberal. He m. Bridget Maloney, of Co. Clare, who d. in 1873, age 75. Issue: John, Michael (d.), Patrick (d. 1848), James (d.), Timothy , Maryborough; and Mrs. McGuire, Wellesley Tp.

John was b. Co. Tipperary, Ire. in 1820, and came to Canada in 1846, and worked in a tannery in Thornhill that summer, and the following summer for Donald Sutherland at Newmarket, and a short time at Sharon, where he helped to build the famous David's Temple for David Wilson.

Late that year he came with Sutherland to Glenallan, where he worked for Sutherland and Allan. His friend Cornelius O'Callaghan induced him to locate lot 9, con. 1, and surveyed and staked it for him. After that he went to Waterloo and worked in a brick yard until 1850, when with the aid of his brother Michael he cleared 7 acres of his farm. For seven weeks they never saw a living person; bears and wolves were numerous. On one occasion when Michael had left the shanty with his gun, the first visitor that put in an appearance was a large black bear which had been attracted by the smell of cooking venison. About this time John purchased from a Nova Scotian who had set. in Mornington Tp. and become disgusted, 200 acres for $30, and the land of Michael and James. He has been a very successful man, and at the age of 84 is cheerful, and with all of his faculties perfect. He is a Roman Catholic, and a Liberal. In 1854 he m. Sarah Vaughan who is still living at the age of 74. Issue: Daniel, at home; Mrs. Kinsella (d.), Mrs. J. McGee, and John, at home; William (d. 29), James, Mornington Tp.; Philomena (d.), Thomas, Mornington; and Edward.

Edward was b. on lot 9, con. 1, Maryborough, in 1871, and owns 70 acres, the east half part of the lot. He works all of the lot, 200 acres, and carries on mixed farming. He is a Roman Catholic, and a Liberal. In 1893 he m. Ellen J. Firth. Issue: Edward L. and Thomas L.
