WALSH, Edward
, was b. in Kings Co., Ireland, and came to Canada about 1829, settling
on lot 6, con 8, Puslinch, where he owned 100 acres of land. He was a well
educated man, and was a Justice of the Peace, and did conveyancing for people
in the district, such as drawing will, deed, etc. He was a Roman Catholic in
religion, and a Conservative, taking great interest in political affairs. He d.
about 1858. His children, all b. in Ireland, were: Thomas, Michael, Simon, and
Mrs. John Cross. Thomas m. Anna Kelly of Fergus , and set. kn Puslinch Tp. He
was killed by accident at 29. Michael b. in 1823, d. 1871. He m. Elizabeth
Morin. He was a farmer in Puslinch Tp. and bred horses. He owned one of the
first horses in the district. He took a strong interest in municipal and
political matters and was Trustee for a number of years in the public schools.
Issue: Thomas, James (d.); Michael, William (d.), was a doctor in Guelph and
Fergus; John, Frank, a physician in Guelph; Ellen on the homestead, and Mary in
Guelph. Thomas, m, Kate Fleming, and resides on the Brock road, on the farm
formerly owned by Alfred Stone, originally the Hughes farm. He carries on mixed
farming, and is a Roman Catholic in religion.
Michael, m. Lizzie Sullivan, of Nichol Tp., and lives on the old Pat McQuillan homestead, Guelph Tp. His specialty is feeding stock for the market. He is a Roman Catholic and a Conservative, taking a strong interest in the affairs of the party. John, lives on the old homestead in Puslinch. He carries on mixed farming and feeds stock for the market. He is a Roman Catholic and a Conservative. He was Councillor of the township for four years and a School Trustee of the consolidated school. Simon, son of Edward Walsh m. Sarah, dau. of Peter Byrnes. He lived on lot 6, con 8, Puslinch Tp., until he retired after which he resided in a house near the Brock road.
