GREEN, William, was b. near Grimsby, Lincolnshire, Eng., in 1800 and d. in 1890, age 90. He came to Canada in 1827, and worked in Port Hope for a few years, when he bought a farm in Cavan Tp., and was among the pioneers there. In 1849 he came to Peel Tp., and purchased 200 acres lot 3, con.16. He cleared the first lot and farmed upon it for a number of years, spending the last 5 years of his life on William Oxby’s farm. He was a strong Reformer and never sought municipal office. He was a Trustee of No. 14 S. S. on Zion Hill. He m. first, Elizabeth Thorndyke, who d. about 1833. Issue: Edward, and George (d. Toronto). His second wife was Ann Thorndyke. Issue: Mrs. Daniel Nicholson, Teviotdale; Mrs. William Oxby, Maryborough; William (d.) ; Mrs. Robt Dunham, Lambton Co.; Mrs. H. W. Gilrie, Arthur; and Mrs. Edward Moore, Elora.

Edward, b. in Port Hope in 1831, and went as a boy to Cavan Tp. In 1849 at 18 years of age, he came with his father to Peel Tp. They came by boat to Hamilton and started from there to Peel Township with three teams of horses. When they reached the present Conley farm, on the 12th line, the horses could go no further, and they were obliged to get oxen and jumpers to continue the journey. He helped his father upon the farm, and got as his share 100 acres on the west half of lot 3, con.15. He is a Methodist and a Reformer, and has been a Trustee of S.S. No. 4 for fourteen years. He m. first, Alice Johnson of Elizabethtown Tp. second, Hulda Lowes, nee Sutton. His children by his first wife are: Mrs. Robert Holmes, Sturgeon Falls; Mrs. Wm., Gilrie, Toronto; Robert, N.D.; George, and William, in Orillia. George was b. and, has always lived on the homestead, which he owns jointly with his father. He is a Methodist and a Reformer. He m. Annie Pierce. Issue: Roy (d. 13), Eva, Lila, and Orley.
