HILBORN, Isaac, Sr ., was the son of John Hilborn, who emigrated from Pennsylvania to York Co., Ont., just after the war of 1812-13, and there set. and was one of the pioneers of York Co., The first money Isaac Hilborn, Sr., earned, was chopping and clearing land in York Co., consequently he started in life without means, and besides educating and starting his family in life, he acquired a nice property, leaving at the time of his death the home farm in Maryborough, and his residence in Drayton.

Isaac Hilborn, Sr., was b. in King Tp., I 1819; d. in 1888, age 69. After farming in Mariposa Tp. for some time, he went to Maryborough in 1855, and bought a squatter's claim of Henry Walker, the west half of lot 18, con. 13, and later 64 acres on the east half. He cleared this farm with the exception of one field, and resided there until he retired to Drayton in 1877, where he lived until his death. Mr. Hilborn was an aggressive man, a very hard worker and successful. He was a member of the Christian church, and a Reformer. He m. Abigale Proctor. Issue: Henry, Maryborough; Harrison, Mich.; Amelia (d. 27). Charlotte (d. 18), Isaac, George, East Luther; William, Mich.; Mrs. T. N. Henry, North Carolina; and Albert (d. 7).

Isaac, whose portrait appears on another page of this work, was b. in Mariposa, and was two years old when he came to Maryborough, where has since lived, with the exception of seven years, when he farmed 200 acres in Luther. He succeeded to the homestead at his father's death, and is engaged in mixed farming. He was Director of the cheese factory, and is President at this writing. He is a Methodist and a Reformer. He m. Sarah Lundy. Issue: Howard, Ethel, Seth, and Herman (d. infancy).
