SHAW, George ., was b. in Norfolk Co., Eng., in 1836. He came to Canada in 1858, and after working for a few months, returned to the Old Country. In 1861, feeling that he could do better in Canada, he decided to go out again. After landing at Quebec he came to Wellington Co., and purchased a place in Peel Tp. He later gave up the claim, and in 1864 he purchased the present homestead of 100 acres, north half of lot 12, con. 5, in Luther. He was $200 in debt when he started, and no buildings were on his place, and only 2 acres cleared. He raised and educated his large family as well as possible under the circumstances in those days. He was Assessor for 12 years and Auditor for 20 yeas, and is a member of the English church, and a Conservative. In 1858, in Eng., he m. Ann Fisher, who is living at the age of 69. Issue: Mrs. Duncan Saunders, John H., George, Edgar, Fred, and Mrs. Hollis Turney, Luther; Walter, Klondike; Mrs. James Hynd, and Alfred, Oregon; Mrs. A. J. Jackson, Luther, and Herbert, at home.

George resides in Damascus, where he operates a grist and lath mill. He is a member of the English church, and a Conservative. In 1896 he m. Lillian, eldest daughter of John Fair, of Arthur Village. Issue: Lillian D., Elsie A., Mary I., John F., and Annie B.

Edgar, b. Peel Tp., 1864. Mr. Shaw started on his present homestead of 100 acres, lot 13, con. 5, West Luther,, upon which there were no improvements, without means. By his industry and strict attention to business he has made it one of the best farms in West Luther township, with modern buildings and the best appliances. He keeps a good deal of stock, and is largely interested in the feeding of cattle and hogs. Mr. Shaw is much respected. He is Trustee of the English church, and in politics a Conservative. In 1892 he m. Mary Neil. Issue: Louise, Russell, Arthur, Cora, Roy, Rennie, Mary and Dinah.
