SWANN, Thomas , of Maryborough, was b. in Lincolnshire, Eng., in 1836. He came to Canada in 1857, settling first in Ancaster. In 1860 he removed to Maryborough and purchased 50 acres, the south half of the west half of lot 14, con 10. Only six acres were cleared, and he was obligated to feed his cattle on leaves and twigs. Later he bought the adjoining 100 acres, east half of lot 13, con. 10, where he has since resided. Mr. Swann commenced with nothing, and became in influential and successful citizen. He has been Steward and Treasurer of the Moorefield Methodist Church for twenty years. He is an Independent Liberal, but does not take an active interest in politics. In 1859 he m. Elizabeth Morrison, who is living aged 67. Issue: Harriet, at home; Jane in Arden, Man; Mrs. Geo. Mavin, in Elora; Mary, in Hamilton; William, at home; Mrs. McBrian, in Detroit; John, in Southern Alberta; Martha, a missionary in China; Thomas, at home and Eva, a school teacher on the 4th line.
