BREMNER, John
(d.), was b. Orkney Island, 1817; d.
1896, age 79. He was one
of the pioneers of West Garafraxa and set. on 100
acres, west half of lot 8,
con. 5, in 1847. He cleared all of this land, end
endured great hardships. He
was originally a deep sea sailor, and after coming
to West Garafraxa, sailed
several seasons on the Great Lakes. In 1841 he m.
Charlotte Dass, who d.
1903, age 84. Issue: Jane, West Garafraxa; Mrs. Allen,
Tecumseh; James,
Toronto; Mrs. Morrison, Fergus: William, in the West;
John, and Alexander (d. 1905).
Alexander bought the east half lot 8, con. 5, as well as lots 6 and 7, on the same con. Since his death it has come into possession of his brother John. John, unm., owns and occupies 400 acres, on lots 6, 7 and 8, West Garafraxa, owning all of the land above mentioned except the original homestead, which as recently been sold. Mr. John Bremner worked the greater part of his life in West Garafraxa and the neighbouring townships as a builder of modern barns, and most of the structures of this kind erected during recent years may be credited to his skill. His property is rated very high in valuation is the township, and he is respected by all for his honesty, fair dealing and good neighbourly qualities.
