DOW, James, M.D ., son of William Dow, was b. on the homestead, in Nichol, in 1862. He received his preliminary education in the High Schools of Fergus and Guelph. He taught school for one year in West Garafraxa, and then in Eramosa, six years, and graduated from the Normal School. He entered Toronto University, in 1887, as a student in medicine, and graduated in 1891, M. B., in medicine. He practiced one year in Rothsay, since which time he has been practising in Belwood, West Garafraxa. He commands one of the largest practices in the county and is considered very skilful both by faculty and people. He has always kept pace with advancement in medicine, both by private study, and medical literature, and has prospered beyond his expectations. He is a Presbyterian, and a Liberal. On Oct. 25, 1893, he m. Kate L., dau. of the late John W. Armstrong.

Mrs. Dow's family were among the first settlers in Eramosa, about 1824, as the history of the Armstrong family, upon another page, will show. William Armstrong, her brother, a retired pioneer, lives in Nichol, near Fergus. There are the following children: Mary R., William W., Lena M., and John A.
