SUTTON, Mark (d.), b. Yorkshire, Eng., d. 1895, age 80. He came to Canada in 1860, and set. first in Eramosa. In 1871 he came to Erin, and set. on his farm of 150 acres, lots 17 and 18, cons. 3 and 4, which he partly cleared. He was a man of strong personality, of a retiring disposition, and highly respected. He took a great interest in the development of the township, also in politics, in which he was a member of the Conservative party. In his church affiliations he was a member of the English church. He m. Ann Pratt, who d. in 1893, age 69. Issue: Robert, m. Jane Butchard, set. in New York State; Thomas (d.), Mrs. E. Robinson, Guelph; Mrs. Mathew Boynton, Chicago; Mark, and John W.

Mark m. Mary Barnes, set. in Erin, they have two children.

John W. b. in Eramosa in 1859, and succeeded his father on the homestead. He carries on mixed farming, raising a number of Shorthorn cattle and Leicester sheep, which he has exhibited at various fairs, including Toronto, with great success. His cattle are known all over Canada. He is a good farmer, very successful, and a first class citizen. He has been Steward of the Methodist church for two years, and is a Conservative in politics. He m. Catharine McKenzie, of Erin. Issue: Thomas M., Edna, Elizabeth, Mary and William M., at home.
