BURNS, Robert (d.), b. Lower Canada, 1833; d. 1903. The late Robert Burns was one of the early settlers of West Garafraxa Township, in the early fifties. He purchased 75 acres, lot 20, con. 7, which he cleared. The late Robert Burns was noted for his readiness to assist his neighbours, and is still remembered for his kind acts. He experienced all of the hardships and obstacles which beset the early settlers. He never held office, but was a very progressive man. He was a Methodist and a Conservative, and a member of L.O.L. No. 124 for upwards of fifty years. He m. Isabella Robinson. Issue: Dean, owner and occupier of lot 19, con. 7; T. R., Mrs. David J. McGowan, Mrs. William Suggett, and Mrs. Richard McConnell, Luther; Mrs. John Sargent, West Garafraxa, and Mrs. James Campbell on the homestead, West Gaxafraxa. T. R. Burns owns the old homestead, to which he has added 50 acres on the north, purchased from Mr. William McGowan. He has on the place a bank barn, 82 x 60, and carries on mixed farming. He is a member of L.O.L. No. 124 and of the Wellington County Agr. Society. In religion he is a Methodist and a Conservative in politics.
