GORDON, John (d.), was b. in Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim, Ire., in 1806. About 1827 he and his brother William emigrated to Canada to make homes for themselves. They bought 200 acres, lot 1 con. 10, Puslinch. While clearing it, William was killed by a falling tree, leaving John with all of the land. Wishing to clear his own farm thoroughly, he traded the rear 100 acres for a yoke of oxen, which assisted him materially in his arduous talk. He was a well educated man; a Presbyterian and a Conservative, and was School Trustee for a number of years. He d. in 1864 at the age of 58. He m. Rebecca Whiteside. The family consisted of: Jane (d. 11), William J., d. unm. 1871, at 33; Mrs. James Dillon, set. in Egremont, Grey Co.; Mrs. Joseph Fletcher, set. Eramosa; Mrs. Kirby Goodings, Grey Co.; John, Jr.; Robert, George, David, and Mrs. Geo. Campbell, Guelph.

John, Jr., b. 1848, owns and works the homestead, which is now know as "Prospect Hill." He carries on mixed farming; feeds cattle for market, and keeps Oxfordshire sheep. Mr. Gordon is a Presbyterian and a Conservative, and has served as School Trustee. He has a wooden clock, the first in the district, for which is father traded a cow. It is still keeping good time. He m. Margaret Ann Nicholls. Issue: Ethel, Clara, Francis, Roy, George and Minnie.

Robert, v. 1850, m. Margaret Head, set. Eramosa Tp.

David, b. 1855, bought the John Iles farm of 200 acres , part of lots 3, 4, 5, and 6, con. 9, in 1886, and has since lived upon it This property was assessed the highest of any 200 acres farm in the township. Mr. Gordon carried on mixed farming and feeds cattle for market, also has a threshing outfit, which he operates in the district. He has been an Elder of a number of years in Knox Church, and is a Conservative in politics. He m. Alice Ritchie. Issue: William J., d. in infancy; Stanley, Lindsay, Wilkie, Alice P. (d. 2), and Russell and Ross (twins).
