RUSTON, Robert
(d.), was b. Yorkshire, Eng., in 1800, and d. in 1871, age 71. He was a
British soldier in the 90th Yorkshire Infantry, and saw service in four
countries and was in many engagements before he came to Canada. He came to
Canada and set. first in Albion Tp., where he cleared a farm. In 1850 he came
to Peel , and set. on lot 2, con. 18, near Arthur, where he owned 172 acres. In
1856 he moved to Normanby, where he remained six years, clearing the greater
part of his farm there. He then moved back to Peel and set. on lot 1, con. 6,
which he partly cleared and lived upon until his death. Mr. Ruston was a strong
vigorous man of temperate habits, much esteemed and respected in the community;
a Methodist and a Reformer. He m. Mary Shore, who d. in 1892, age 85. Issue:
Mrs. Jonathan Goulding (d.), Moses, set. in King Tp.; Aaron, Mrs. James Scarr,
Mrs. William Crites, N.D.; John and Mrs. Francis Cooper (d.), Maryborough.
Aaron, m. Sarah Cole, set. lot 1 con. 16, of Peel, and is now living retired.
Issue: Joseph L, Mary, Nellie, Elizabeth, Francis, and Gertrude. John was b. in
Canada. He resides on lot 2, con. 16 Peel, and owns 300 acres of land. He makes
a specialty of pedigreed Durham cattle, and is an enterprising and prosperous
farmer, highly esteemed by the people of the community, where he has always
lived. In religion he is a Methodist and politically an Independent. His firs
wife was Susan Towriss, who d. in 1881, Issue: Thomas W. (d.), and Ann. His
second wife was Annie Cooper. Issue: Norman, Laura, Albert, Earl, Jessie,
Bertha and George. Norman m. Maud Lobb. Issue: Alvin.
