LEDINGHAM, Peter (d.), was b. in Aberdeen, Scot., in 1799, and d. in 1842. He was a farmer in Scot., and m. Isabella Duncan, who d. in 1901, age 86. In 1855 Mrs. Ledingham came to Canada with her family : James, Isabella and Jane.

James Ledingham was b. in Aberdeen, Scot., in 1833, and came to Canada in 1855 with his wife and mother and sisters. He had no means at that time and first worked at his trade as a carpenter in Elora. He afterwards went to Drayton and operated a flour and sawmill, and later built and operated a sawmill on the Irvine River, in Nichol. In 1864 he removed to Alma, where he built a saw and chopping mill, and, with the assistance of his sons, has since conducted the business. He is a man of sterling qualities, upright and highly respected; a kind and genial Scotchman. He has held the offices of Secretary and Treasurer of the Alma Pres. Church, and School Trustee, and was on the committee of the Wellington, Grey and Bruce Railway, when making rates of passenger tariff for Alma. He is a Liberal in politics. In 1855 he m. Isabella Durno, b. in Scot. She d. in 1901, age 68. Issue: William, Mary , James, Elizabeth, Alexander (d.), Jane (d.), Kate and George.

William is a miller in Alma, and m. Sophia Creary. Issue: Sophia and Alma. Mary m. George Spence, set in Tara. James is a miller and engineer in Alma, and m. Mary Tilly. Issue: Isaabella. Elizabeth m. Joseph McCrae.

Katie m John Hughes (d.); George m. Miss Miller, and is an engineer at Goldie and McCullough's in Galt.
