GIBSON, Samuel
, is a son of John H. Gibson, who still occupies the house on the old homestead
which is now owned by his son John. He was b. Belfast, Ire., and came out with
his parents about 1843. He had five sons: Samuel, blacksmith in Mimosa; John,
on the old homestead; William, Camden; Robert, blacksmith, Terracotta, Peel
Co., James, blacksmith, Erin Village; Mrs. Overland, Cataract Jct.; Mrs. Freel,
Mrs. Nunn, and Mrs. Sarah Gibson, reside in Hamilton. All of his sons are land
owners and all except John have adopted the blacksmith trade. Samuel, b.
Caledon, 1859, owns over 200 acres in Erin Tp., on the edge of Mimosa. This
property is well improved; on one of the 100 acres he has a fine modern house
and bank barn, and a bank barn on the other 100 acres
Mr. Gibson is considered one of the most expert blacksmiths in the county, and is an expert in agricultural machinery, having few equals in Ontario. The farmers from every quarter within a radius of 15 miles send machines for repairs to him. He is a Presbyterian and an Independent, and has been Postmaster of Mimosa for two years. In 1884 he m. Sarah Sanderson. Issue: John Henry and Willie A., and three daughters, Nellie, Jennie and Ettie. The Gibsons are progressive and leading men wherever found.
