PRINGLE, James
(d.), was b. Ayrshire, Scot., in 1820, and s. in 1905, age 85. He was a
blacksmith by trade, and came to Canada in 1852, and worked at his trade in
Montreal for about a year. He then went to Toronto, where he worked for a year,
then to Hamilton, working most of the time for the G. T. R., which was then
being constructed. He worked for a time in Galt for Goldie & McCulloch, but,
anticipating the coming panic in business, in 1878 he decided that land was the
best investment, and farming the means of making a livelihood. About twenty
years previously he had purchased the present homestead at a land sale. After
locating, he had walked from Guelph through the bush to inspect his purchase.
He went on and cleared the place, which is now assessed for $6,300, and is one
of the best homes in Luther. He was a Presbyterian and a Liberal. In 1847 he m.
Mary McMillan, who is living age 84. Issue: Mrs. Love, N.Y.; Mrs. Geo. Findlay,
Hamilton; Maggie (d. 40), and Robert.
Robert, b. in Hamilton, 1870, owns the homestead, where he carries on mixed farming, and feeds cattle for export on an extensive scale. He has especially good building and improvements He is Sec'y-Treas. of S.S. No. 3, IN 1900 he m. Jessie Allan, of Woodridge. Issue; Jennie Alice (d.), James Alfred and David Allan.
