GORDON, William L . William Lamb Gordon was b. in Elgin, Scot., Feb 29 1844, and came to Canada in 1864. He set. in Pilkington on lot 13 and afterwards bought lot 14, making in all 200 acres, known as "Cedar Burn Farm," which he developed into one of the finest farms in the township. He has a number of Shorthorn cattle, Southdown sheep and Yorkshire hogs, and feeds from thirty to forty head of cattle for market yearly. Mr. Gordon was a Manager in Chalmer’s Presbyterian Church for years, and now holds the office of Elder in the same church. In municipal affairs he has always taken an active part. He held the office of Assessor for eleven years, Deputy Reeve three years and Reeve four years. He was one of the promoters of the Kinnettles Creamery Association, and was its President until the company sold out. He was the leading spirit in organizing the Farmer’s Institute of Central Wellington and was its President for six years. In 1896 Mr. Gordon was the candidate for member of Parliament for Centre Wellington in the Patrons’ interest. His opponents were: Dr. Groves, Dr. Lewis (Conservative), and Andrew Semple (Liberal). In this four-cornered fight Mr. Semple was elected.

Mr. Gordon was Chairman of the county property for four years, during which time the county buildings were renovated.

He has always taken an active interest in education, every member of his family having attended the Elora High School. Taken altogether, Mr. Gordon’s life has been an active one, and he has the good-will and respect of all who know him.

In 1867 he m. Anne Webster, who was b. in Forfarshire, Scot., Jan 1845, and came to Canada in 1861, and d. on Aug 27 1901, at the age of 56. The family are as follows: Mary Skeaff, at home; Mrs. W. C. Short, set. Pilkington; Margaret, nurse, Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia; Agnes, Webster, school teacher at Newport Ont.; Arthur William, Dingwall and Elgin Gibson at home.
