MORGAN, Francis
(d.), was b. in Co. Sligo, Ire., 1805, d. 1891. He came to Canada in early
manhood, set. in Lower Canada, where he remained for some years, and in the
early fifties, came to Maryborough, being one of the pioneer settlers of the
township, where he purchased 100 acres, the west half of lot 6, con. 9, which
he cleared. The late Francis Morgan was a man of great personal activity, and
by his perseverence, thrift and industry, became a successful and respected
citizen. He took an active interest in everything for the betterment of the
township, and was enterprising and progressive. Outside of being School Trustee
he never held office, although frequently asked to do so. In politics he was a
Conservative, and in religion, a member of the English church. He m. Annie
Gray. His family seem to have inherited the pioneer spirit of their father, and
for the most part have settled away from their birth-place. Catherine, and
Henry are in B.C., while Thomas, Mary, John, and Francis, are in Man. Margaret,
and Jane in W. Toronto Junction.
George Morgan, second son of the late Francis Morgan, b. in Lower Canada, came to Maryborough with his parents in youth, and has since resided here. He owns the old homestead, besides 100 acres further up the line. Like his respected father, he has always taken a healthy interest in political questions, but has never aspired to office. As a farmer and business man, he has been very successful, and is one of the substantial citizens of Maryborough. In religion, he is a member of the English church. He m. Elizabeth R. McCombs.
