McENENY, James (d.), was b. Monaghan, Ire., 1833. He came to Canada in 1852 as a boy with his parents, and when old enough worked with farmers in Caledon, where his parents remained until their death, both being buried in the same cemetery. Being attracted by the advertisements in Luther of cheap land, in 1857 he set. on lot 8, con. 9. At that time there was little or no clearing, and he followed the blazed path to his land and built his own shanty. He farm of 200 acres in now assessed at $9,000. He is a man of fixed principles, great personal activity, and a strong Liberal, being Chairman at several public meetings. In religion he is a Roman Catholic. He has made all of his money and acquired his valuable property by his own efforts, and is highly respected in the district. He m. Mary Tighe. Issue: Mrs. Edward Fitzpatrick, Luther; Annie, Toronto; William L., Soo; Ellen, at home; Mrs. Con. Heffernan, John, Joseph and Alice, at home; Mrs. Patrick Manion, Luther; and Mary, housekeeper for Father Sweeney in Orangeville.
