MURCHISON, John was b. Puslinch, 1858. He is the eldest son of the late Roderick Murchison, Puslinch. John Murchison remained with his parents until their death, and in 1874 came to Arthur, lot 21 con. 3, 106 acres. This farm was considered a willow swamp when he took it. Mr. Murchison was then a young man, and he cleared up and drained his farm, later erecting modern buildings, until to-day it is a valuable property assessed at $4,800. Mr. Murchison never had any financial assistance, and his success in life has been due to his own efforts. He m. Jennie Deans in 1879, who d. in 1898, age 36, and left the following children: Mrs. E. Gilder, Luther; Bella, Walter, Roderick and Sarah. Mr. Murchison is one of the managers of the Gordonville Presbyterian church, and in politics is a Liberal.
