STARKEY, John
(d.), was nine years old when he came with his people to U.S. in 1831. In 1833
they moved to Puslinch and set. on 200 acres, part of lots 7, 8 and 9, con. 10,
which they cleared. He m. Margaret Murray. Issue: Mrs. Wm. Eakett (d.), set. in
Puslinch Tp.; Mrs. Thomas Willoughby (d.) set. in Toronto; James, Mrs. Frank
Cockburn (d.), set in Toronto; and Mrs. Robert Rogers, set. in Arkell.
James has worked and owned the homestead since his father's death. He makes a specialty of breeding carriage horses for the American markets. He also exhibits at Toronto and other shows where he has been unusually successful, one of his horses taking 52 first prizes and three diplomas. He has always taken a deep interest in Wellington Co. Agr. Affairs, being President of the S. Wellington Agr. Soc. And also a Director for years. He is a Presbyterian and a Conservative. He m. Grace Paddock. Issue: Richard, James and Margaret.
