JOHNSTON, John , b. Roxburghshire, Scot., in 1849. He is a son of the late Thomas Johnston, of Arthur Tp., and came to Canada when 12 years of age, with his father, and set. on the 2nd concession of Arthur Tp., where he stayed with his father for twelve years. He then came to Luther and purchased 300 acres, lot 1, con. 6. He cleared it and made it one of the finest farms in the township and now owns 590 acres in at block. He has been one of the most successful men in the township, acquiring all of his property by his own industry. He retired from active work in 1905, and lives at Gordonville. He takes a pardonable pride in the fact that he never was sued in his life. He is a Presbyterian, and a Liberal. In 1873 he m. Sarah Gill. Issue: William at home; John, on the homestead; Frederick, at home; Mrs. Alfred Green, Arthur; Francis and Mabel at home.

William, on the homestead, is a Presbyterian, and a Conservative. He m. Margaret Hart in 1905.
