WRIGHT, John
(d.), was b. Paisley, Scot., d. 1861, age 66. He came to Canada in 1831,
and was a pioneer in King Tp., where he owned 100 acres, and lived until his
death, which occurred n Quebec, where he had gone to take the ship for a visit
to Scot. He was a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Jean Jamieson. Of his
family, one son the late Peter Wright, was the only who came to Wellington Co.
He was b. in Paisley, Scot, in 1819, and d. 1902. In 1853 he came to Nichol
Tp., and purchased 100 acres, lots 11 and 12, con. 16. In 1882 he retired to
Fergus, where he d. He was a Presbyterian and a Liberal; a successful farmer
and a good citizen. He first m. Jean Walker. Issue: Arthur W., Jean (d.), John,
Mount Forest; William on the Pacific Coast, and Elizabeth (d.). Later he m.
Jane Smith. No issue.
Arthur W., was b. and raised in Nichol Tp. He was educated at the public and High schools, and is a B.A. of Toronto University. Before his graduation he taught in the public schools of West Garafraxa and Port Arthur, and in the High schools of Brantford, Orillia and Walkerton, and for fifteen years was Modern Language Master in Galt Collegiate Institute. In 1902 he purchased the Mount Forest Confederate, which he has since successfully conducted. In connection with his office is a job printing plant. Mr. Wright is a Liberal and a Presbyterian, and is greatly interested in church work. He was Sunday School Superintendent in Galt and Mount Forest, and has written considerable on religious education. He m. Annie D. McConkey. Issue: Grace, Jean and Annie.
