LESLIE, George (d.), was b. in Aberdeenshire, Scot., in 1796, and d. in 1873, age 77. He came to Canada in 1836 with very little means, and set. in Nichol Tp. He was not pleased with the country, but fortunately lack of means prevented his return to Scot., so he stayed and cleared his farm in Nichol, and by his industry and perseverance acquired a fine property, giving all of his family a good start in life, and a liberal education. He was a Presbyterian and a Liberal. He m. Ann Mitchell, who d. in 1890, age 85. Surviving Issue: James, Elora; Frank, Nichol; Rev. Alexander, Presbyterian minister in Bruce Co.; Mary and George.

George, b. 1845, on the Nichol homestead, farmed in Nichol and West Luther of 6 years, and then purchased 50 acres near Goldstone, in Peel Tp. Finding his place too small he sold it, and bought 119 acres, south half of lot 18, con. 9, Maryborough. He carried on mixed farming, and is a Presbyterian, and a Liberal. He m. Maggie Mackie. Issue: Annie, Alexander, Mabel, Alice, Ella, William and James.
